Volkswagen has finally taken the wraps off its first made-in-India SUVW. Volkswagen India has already garnered over 12,000 bookings for the new Taigun. Volkswagen India has priced the Taigun from Rs 10.49 lakh whereas the top-spec GT Plus is priced at Rs 17.5 lakh ex-showroom.
2021 Volkswagen Taigun – Price and Variants
Volkswagen has removed the base Trendline variant from the lineup. The range now starts from Comfortline with the 1.0 TSI MT that is priced at Rs 10.49 lakh. Moving up further, the Highline 1.0 TSI MT is priced at Rs 12.80 lakh and AT is priced at Rs 14.10 lakh. The top variant is the Topline, which is again available with both 1.0 TSI MT and AT, at Rs 14.57 lakh and Rs 15.90 lakh. Now coming to the 1.5 TSI range, it is available in two trims – GT manual at Rs 14.99 lakh and GT Plus AT at Rs 17.50 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, PAN India
2021 Volkswagen Taigun – Design and Features
Volkswagen Taigun is inspired by bigger VW SUVs like the Tiguan and even the smaller T-Cross. It gets a large chrome VW grille on the front with prominent chrome garnishing on the lower bumper. The top variants also offer dual-projector LED headlights whereas the lower variants get halogen headlights. Top variants also offer R17 alloy wheels, LED taillights, roof rails, electric sunroof and more.
On the inside, we get a fully digital virtual cockpit, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play, wireless charger, automatic climate control, cruise control and more. The Taigun also offers great rear legroom thanks to its long wheelbase and modular MQB-AO IN platform.
2021 Volkswagen Taigun – Engine Options
Volkswagen offers the new Taigun with two petrol engine options – 1.0L TSI and 1.5L TSI. The smaller 1.0L TSI 3-cyl engine churns out 115Hp and 175 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AT. The bigger and more powerful 1.5L TSI EVO engine puts out 150Hp and 250 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG gearbox. The 1.5L TSI also offers ACD (Active Cylinder Deactivation) Technology that shuts two of the cylinders while cruising.
Volkswagen has also announced some impressive service and warranty packages for a hassle-free experience. The service packages start from Rs 21,999 for four years and the similar package for the 1.0 TSI AT is priced at Rs 27,999. In addition to that, Volkswagen has also dropped the prices of spare parts by up to 13%, for cheaper maintenance. In a nutshell, the cost per kilometre for the 1.0L TSI stands at 37 paise/km and 40 paise/km for the 1.5 TSI.
