Here are the electric SUV cars that are currently on sale in the Indian market. We will start from the most affordable ones and then rise up to the ones with all the possible bells and whistles. Don’t miss the end as we will also shed some light on the upcoming electric SUVs that are expected to get launched in the coming years.

Tata Nexon EV – Rs 14.24 – 16.85 Lakh

Tata Nexon EV is the most affordable electric SUV you can buy in the Indian market. Some may call out for the Mahindra eKUV100 to be the one but that is yet to go on sale for private buyers. The Nexon EV has been a runaway success for the Indian carmaker. It offers space, comfort, looks and a respectable range. It is also backed by a strong charging infrastructure that is looked over by Tata Power. Tata Nexon EV offers a 30.2kWh battery pack that comes with a claimed range of 312 km on a single charge. Tata Motors is also soon going to launch a 40kWh long-range model that could offer a range of up to 400 km.

MG ZS EV – Rs 20.99 – 24.68 Lakh

MG Motor India launched the ZS EV after their debut product. It was a rather bold move by the Chinese-owned British carmaker to have the second product as an electric crossover. However, it turned out to be rather well and the ZS EV found homes in the Indian market. The ZS EV comes with a 44.5kWh battery pack which couples with a 142Hp electric motor. It puts out 353 Nm of torque along with a claimed range of 419 km. The ZS EV also offers impressive features like LED projector headlamps, panoramic sunroof, electric driver’s seat and more. The ZS EV takes on the likes of the Hyundai Kona EV and it’s soon to receive a major facelift.

Hyundai Kona EV – Rs 23.79 – 23.97 lakh

Hyundai Kona EV was the first mass-market long-range EV in the Indian market. Hyundai launched the Kona EV in early 2020 and it performed well in our market. It comes with a 39.2kWh battery pack with an ARAI-claimed range of 452 km. Its electric motor puts out 136Hp and 395 Nm of torque. When it comes to features, the Kona EV offers LED DRLs, regenerative braking, 7-inch infotainment with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, automatic headlights and more. Hyundai is soon to launch the Kona EV facelift that has been revealed in the global markets.

Mercedes-Benz EQC – Rs 1.06 Crore

Mercedes-Benz EQC was the first premium all-electric SUV in the Indian market. Launched last year, it opened up a new segment for Indian buyers. It was later followed by the Audi e-tron and the Jaguar I-Pace. Talking about its specs, the EQC comes with an 85kWh battery pack. Its two electric motors – mounted at each axle – churn out 408Hp and 765 Nm of torque. The EQC is based on the modified platform of the GLC and hence, suffers with low ground clearance. In terms of features, the EQC comes with 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with MBUX, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, ambient lighting, electric sunroof and more. The EQC takes on the likes of the Jaguar I-Pace, Audi e-tron and the recently launched BMW iX.

Audi e-tron and Sportback – Rs 1 – Rs 1.18 Crore

Audi e-tron was the first-ever premium electric SUV that was showcased in the Indian market. While the pandemic delayed the launch, we got to see not one, but three e-tron models. Audi launched both the e-tron and e-tron Sportback whereas the former was offered with two battery pack options. The Audi e-tron 50 gets a 71kWh battery pack with a range of 379 km. The e-tron 55 and Sportback 55 get a 95kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 484 km. Coming to the features, the e-tron range offers four-zone climate control, airmatic suspension, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and a lot more.

Jaguar I-Pace – Rs 1.06 – 1.12 Crore

Jaguar I-Pace is the first all-electric Jaguar SUV that has been crowned with multiple international awards. Jaguar launched the I-Pace in the Indian market last year and it’s offered in three trims – S, SE and HSE. All three trims come with a single 90kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of 470 km. The twin electric motors put out 400Hp and close to 700 Nm of torque. In terms of features, the I-Pace offers a digital instrument cluster, Pivi Pro infotainment system, touch-based air-con controls, sky roof, and a lot more.

BMW iX – Rs 1.16 Crore

BMW iX is the latest entrant in the Indian EV space. While the global markets have got the powerful iX M60, BMW has only launched the iX 40 here in India. It comes with a 76.6kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of 425 km. Its two electric motors, mounted at each axle, put up 326Hp and 630 Nm of torque. The iX boasts a radical design with a large self-healing kidney grille, slimmest LED lights to ever be fitted on any BMW and a lot more. BMW may also consider the more powerful ix 50 along with the i4 electric sedan for the Indian market.

Here are a list of upcoming electric SUVs in India that are expected to get launched later this year.

MG ZS EV Facelift

MG Motor India will soon launch the facelift of the ZS EV. It will come with a refreshed design and better features. The current ZS EV is based on the pre-facelifted ZS that was on sale in the global markets. The Astor is the facelifted ZS and the EV will share the design cues with the Astor. Along with the prominent exterior changes, we will also get to see some changes on the inside in form of a new instrument cluster, a larger and improved infotainment system and more features. MG Motor India could launch the ZS EV facelift in mid-2022.

Hyundai Kona EV Facelift

Hyundai India launched the Kona EV facelift in the global markets last year. It comes with some visual changes, both on the outside and on the inside. We will get to see sleeker LED headlights, a new grille and reworked bumpers. With the facelift, Hyundai could also launch the larger and more powerful battery pack that is already on sale overseas. The current Hyundai Kona EV comes with a 39.2kWh battery pack. Hyundai is expected to launch the Kona EV facelift in late 2022.

Volvo XC40 Recharge

Volvo India had announced the launch of the XC40 Rechange but that was called off last moment, due to the global semi-conductor shortage. The XC40 Recharge is the all-electric version of the XC40. It comes with a 78 kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of 418 km. Its twin electric motors churn out 408Hp and it does 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds in silence. In terms of features, the XC40 Recharge offers a digital instrument cluster, Android-based vertically-stacked infotainment system, electric tailgate, 360-degree parking camera and more. Volvo XC40 Recharge will be positioned a notch below the Mercedes-Benz EQC and Audi e-tron.

Here were all the upcoming electric SUVs in India in 2023. It is worth noting that the launch timelines mentioned above are tentative and are bound to change. Moving further, we have even more electric vehicles coming from the house of Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai and MG that are yet to get a greenlight.
