Kia KY MPV India Launch in Early 2022

Table of Contents

Kia Motor India witnessed a runaway success with the Seltos and it’s the best-selling Kia model in India. Post the launch of the Seltos, Kia India launched the Carnival MPV and the sub-compact Sonet SUV. Extending its portfolio, Kia India is now readying a mid-size MPV for the Indian market and it will share its platform and powertrains with the Seltos. Kia KY MPV India launch is slated for early 2022 and it’s been spied multiple times on the Indian roads.

Kia KY MPV India Launch

Kia KY is the internal codename for the upcoming MPV and it will be sandwiched between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. Unlike the Innova Crysta and Mahindra Marazzo, the KY MPV will be based on a monocoque construction. Talking about its design, while not much has been revealed, it will get the Tiger nose grille and LED headlights on the front with an inverted DRL design. On the side, we get to see dual-tone alloy wheels and thick body cladding. The large glass area will allow loads of light to enter inside the cabin whereas Kia could also offer a dual-pane sunroof in the top trims.

The wheelbase of the KY MPV will be longer than that of the Seltos to accommodate extra seating space. It is expected to offer considerably better third-row seating space than the Alcazar that is also based on the same K2 platform. Shedding some light on the engine options, the KY will share its powertrains with the Seltos. That includes the frugal 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre MPI petrol engines. However, we won’t be surprised if Kia also offers the 2.0-litre MPI petrol engine seen with the Alcazar.

As we stated earlier, the KY MPV will be launched in the Indian market in early 2022. It will be manufactured in India and exported to foreign markets as well. Kia wants to tap on the highly lucrative MPV segment which is currently dominated by the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta at the respective ends. Kia India is looking to place the KY in between and offer a competitive price tag.
