Tata Nexon EV is the best-selling electric vehicle in the Indian market. The Nexon EV accounts for over 70 per cent market share in India and doesn’t have any direct rivals. Tata Motors is now going to launch an updated model in the Nexon EV range with a larger 40kWh battery pack. We expect it to offer an ARAI certified range of 400+ km.
Tata Nexon EV Long Range – All Details
Tata Nexon EV is currently offered with a 30.2kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of 312 km on a single charge. The real-world range hovers in the region of 220-250 km. With the 40kWh battery pack, Tata Nexon EV long range could offer up to 350+ km in the real world. However, there may not be any performance gains and we expect it to offer the same 129Hp and 245 Nm of torque.
Tata Nexon EV feels zippy to drive and does 0-100 km/h in a respectable 9.9 seconds. However, with the added weight of the battery cells, the performance could take a hit if Tata decides to keep the performance figures the same. If you are aiming for performance, both the Hyundai Kona EV and MG ZS EV would suffice you better. In other news, the Nexon has found so many buyers as it has now surpassed the demand of the Nexon diesel. That’s a great achievement and a step in the right direction.
In terms of looks and design, we do not expect any big changes. Tata could slap on some badges to showcase the presence of a larger battery pack. The extra cells in the battery would cost more than the current model and we will be having a clearer idea of the same closer to its launch. On the inside, while we do not expect any big changes, Tata may offer cruise control with the updated Nexon EV. That would not only make highway driving more convenient but also increase the range.
Tata Nexon EV currently leads the electric SUV segment with the highest number of sales. However, the Indian electric SUV is going to face some tough competition. MG has already announced its electric sub-compact SUV whereas Hyundai is working on a slew of electric SUVs for the Indian market. MG electric compact SUV will be based on a global platform and will go against the Nexon EV. Hyundai is also working on some affordable electric offerings that would be locally assembled. Tata Nexon EV Long Range India launch is expected in late 2022.
