Tata Motors is all set to launch the Punch micro-SUV in the Indian market. Tata had revealed the rather unique name a few days ago and now we have access to the exterior images, revealing its design elements. Tata could launch the Punch as early as next month and bookings could open in the coming weeks.
Tata Punch Exterior Images – Design Elements
Tata Motors had released the name of the HBX concept with the front-side view image. Tata Punch exterior images have now been unveiled whereas interiors will be revealed at a later date. The production-spec model looks very similar to the HBX concept while some design elements have been streamlined. We have already talked about the front, so let’s put the focus on the back. Tata Punch retains the X-pattern on the boot, inspired from the Nexon, Y-shaped wraparound LED taillights, roof-mounted spoiler and blacked-out rear bumper. The design elements are similar to the HBX concept and only the rear skid plate is missing from the production-spec model.
Tata Punch Features and Platform
Tata Punch takes a lot of inspiration from the Harrier when looked from the front. The split headlights design with LED and projector setup is reminiscent of the Harrier. Tata Punch is the second vehicle from the brand to sit on the ALFA platform and the same platform also underpins the Altroz. Tata Altroz scored a resounding 5-star safety rating from the Global NCAP and we can expect similar ratings for the Punch as well. Talking about the features, Tata Punch will come with a floating infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, part-digital instrument cluster, dual airbags, ABS with EBD to name a few.
Tata Punch Engine Options and Rivals
Tata Punch will only be offered with petrol engine options. The base engine will be the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine seen on the Tiago, Tigor, and Altroz. It produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. Tata could also offer the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine seen on the Altroz i-Tubro with 110 PS of power. The gearbox options could include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. Tata Punch will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 and upcoming Citroen C21 SUV. Tata Motors is expected to launch the Punch next month and we expect a sub 5 lakh starting price.
