The Indian automotive market is steadily recovering and the sales have started growing after the pandemic. In the month of October 2021, Maruti Suzuki trumped the sales chart with the Alto being the best-seller of the month. Here are all the top-selling cars in India for the month of October 2021. It is worth noting that some cars have been witnessing a shortage of semi-conductor chips that have limited production.
Top 10 Selling Cars in India October 2021
Maruti Suzuki Alto
Maruti Suzuki Alto is and has always been the best-selling car in the Indian market. The Alto has been serving the Indian market for more than two decades and the Japanese carmaker is soon to launch the new-gen model. Talking about numbers, Maruti Suzuki sold over 17,389 units of the Alto in October 2021. That’s a decrease of 3 per cent when compared to October 2020 in which the sales stood at 17,850 units. Maruti Suzuki Alto comes powered with a 0.8-litre petrol engine that can also be had with the CNG option.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the best-selling premium hatchback in the Indian market. It has been consistently outselling the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz all these years and the new facelift is on the way to hitting the markets next year. Talking about the sales figures, 15,573 units of the Baleno have been sold which is 29 per cent lower than last year. In October 2020, Maruti Suzuki sold 21,971 units of the Baleno. The upcoming facelift of the Baleno will come with redesigned exteriors and interiors along with updated features.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the best-selling MPV in the Indian market and it has been consistently in waiting periods. Maruti Suzuki sold 12,923 units of the Ertiga in October 2021 that is 67 per cent higher than October 2020, in which the sales stood at just 7,748 units. Despite being offered with a sole petrol engine, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has shown a strong comeback whereas other rivals do offer diesel engine options as well. The CNG variants of the Ertiga are in high demand too, thanks to cheap maintenance and amazing fuel efficiency.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R
Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R has been a consistent best-seller since its launch. In the third generation, Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R is available in two petrol engines along with AMT and CNG options as well. In the month of October 2021, Maruti Suzuki sold 12,335 units of the Wagon-R that is 34 per cent lower than October 2020 in which the figures stood at 18,703 units.
Hyundai Venue
Hyundai Venue and Vitara Brezza always play a healthy competition and in the month of October, the Venue has overtaken the Brezza in sales numbers. In October 2021, Hyundai sold 10,554 units of the Venue that is 20 per cent higher than October 2020 in which the sales stood at 8,828 units. Hyundai Venue is popular thanks to its range of powertrain options along with some segment-best features.
Kia Seltos
It’s very rare to see the Seltos coming on top over the Hyundai Creta in monthly sales. Since the arrival of the new Creta, Kia Seltos got under shadowed thanks to the large panoramic sunroof of the Creta. Nonetheless, in the month of October 2021, Kia India sold 10,488 units of the Seltos that is 18 per cent more than October 2020 in which the sales stood at 8,900 units. Kia Seltos offers a long list of features and shares its powertrains with the Creta, except for the T-GDi manual and 1.5 iMT.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco
Maruti Suzuki Eeco is an evergreen MPV in the portfolio of the Japanese carmaker and it’s the only MPV that manages to compete with the Ertiga. In the month of October 2021, Maruti Suzuki sold 10,320 units of the Eeco that is 22 per cent lower than October 2020 in which the brand sold 13,309 units. Maruti Suzuki Eeco is a bare-bone MPV that is often bought for commercial purposes.
Tata Nexon
Tata Nexon posts a strong comeback in October 2021 as the sales stood at 10,096 units. In October 2020, Tata Motors managed to sell only 6,888 units of the Nexon that is 47 per cent less than October 2021. Tata Nexon enjoys the status of 5-star safety rating along with its efficient powertrain options. The Nexon EV has also been doing pretty well in the Indian market.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
Maruti Suzuki Swift recently got a minor facelift along with the new Dualjet petrol engine. The Swift has lost some of its fame to the bigger Baleno and it has started losing numbers. In the month of October 2021, Maruti Suzuki sold 9,180 units of the Swift that is 63 per cent lower than October 2020 in which the brand sold 24,589 units. The upcoming facelift of the Baleno could impact the sales of the Swift even more.
Tata Punch
Tata Punch has been a runaway success for Tata, placing its mark in the top 10 in the first month of launch itself. Tata Motors sold 8,453 units of the Punch in October 2021. Tata Punch offers the much-loved SUV design and proportions in a smaller footprint along with segment-best features like auto headlights, wipers and cruise control. Here were all the top-selling cars in India for the month of October 2021. It is worth noting that some cars have been badly affected by the shortage of semi-conductor chips in this year that has resulted in a scattered sales analysis. Some cars like the Hyundai Creta hasn’t made it to the top 10 list because of the shortage of semiconductor chips.
