Toyota Hilux

After a lot of rumours, the confirmation from Toyota India has arrived and the Hilux pick-up truck is all set to hit the floor. Toyota recently launched the facelift of the Hilux in the global markets and the same will be launched in the Indian market as well. Toyota Hilux India launched is slated for January 2022 and bookings will be open shortly.

Toyota Hilux India Launch

Toyota Hilux is based on the same platform that also underpins the Fortuner and Innova Crysta. On the outside, it gets a large grille flanked by LED headlights. The lower part of the bumper gets a rugged skid plate to protect the underbody from daily abuse. The Hilux that will be launched in the Indian market will come with a dual-cab for better practicality. The dual-cab model comes with a smaller loading deck at the rear and we expect Toyota to offer some customisation options for the same.

On the inside, the Hilux comes with a redesigned dashboard with new features and equipment. The layered dashboard of the Hilux is a bit different when compared to that of the Fortuner. It gets 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Other features include front and rear parking sensors, automatic climate control, smart key with push-button start, 9-speaker JBL sound system and more.

Coming to the powertrain options, the Hilux is offered with two engine options – 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesel engines. Both the engines can be had with either 2WD or 4WD and with manual and automatic gearbox options. The 2.4-litre diesel engine churns out 150Hp and 400 Nm of torque whereas the 2.8-litre diesel puts out 204Hp and 500 Nm of torque. Toyota could offer both the 2.4L and 2.8L diesel engine options in the Indian market but the crowd’s choice would be the 2.8L oil burner.

Talking about the launch timeline, as we stated earlier, the Hilux will be launched in India in January 2022. The Japanese carmaker is yet to announce the launch date. The Hilux will take on the likes of the Isuzu V-Cross that has started showing its age in front of the competition. Expect Toyota India to price the Hilux aggressively as it could bring volumes to the brand.
