Upcoming Cars Under 15 Lakhs in India

Before hopping to the list of upcoming cars under 20 lakhs, let’s wrap up with the cars that are going to fall below the 15 lakhs price mark. It is worth noting that the prices mentioned are expected whereas the launch timelines are tentative.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift

Maruti Suzuki India has been testing the Baleno facelift for quite some time now and some spy images have surfaced. Maruti Suzuki will give the Baleno a prominent makeover to take on the growing competition. That will include some good changes made to the exteriors whereas the interiors will be all new. On the inside, the new Baleno will offer updated dashboard with bigger infotainment, repositioned AC vents, new steering wheel with cruise control and a lot more.

Except for the design changes and feature upgrades, the mechanicals are expected to remain as is. That means it will continue to come powered with a 90Hp 1.2-litre K12C petrol engine with both 5-speed manual and CVT transmission options. Maruti Suzuki could charge a good premium for the Baleno and it will go against the likes of the Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz. The launch is slated for later this year and bookings could open soon.

Toyota Belta

Toyota India has been relying on the Suzuki-rebadged products to sail in the Indian market. With the good success of the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser, Toyota is now prepping up to launch the rebadged version of the Ciaz that will be called Belta. The left hand drive versions of which have already been spied and Toyota will sell the Belta in other emerging markets as well.

Just like the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser, the Belta will be identical to the Ciaz with the same engine option. Toyota will slap its emblem on the exteriors and interiors with minor changes. It will come powered with the 105Hp 1.5-litre K15 petrol engine that comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed AT. Toyota could price the Belta higher than the Ciaz, taking benefit of better brand value and warranty. Toyota could launch the Belta near the festive season and it will lock its horns with the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio

After receiving amazing response from the market for the XUV700, Mahindra is now readying the new Scorpio for 2022 launch. It will be underpinned by the new body-on-frame chassis we have seen with the Thar and will also share its powertrain options with the new Thar. Powering the new Scorpio will be 2.0-litre T-GDi petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options with both MT and AT options.

The new Scorpio will create a own niche for itself as there are no body-on-frame SUVs left in the market. Mahindra is expected to price the new Scorpio in the region of Rs 10 – 17 lakh ex-showroom.

Skoda India has recently unveiled the name of its upcoming mid-size sedan and it will be called Slavia. The Slavia will replace the Skoda Rapid and will actually be a step up to current Rapid owners. It will be bigger than the Rapid in dimensions along with a longer wheelbase. The Slavia will be underpinned by the localised MQB-AO IN platform that also does duty on the Kushaq and VW Taigun.

Skoda Slavia

Powering the Slavia will be two TSI engine options – 115Hp 1.0-litre and 150Hp 1.5L. Both the engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AT and 7-speed DSG respectively. Volkswagen is expected to launch the Virtus after the Slavia, just like the case with the Kushaq and Taigun.

Volkswagen Virtus will also come powered with 115Hp 1.0-litre TSI and 150Hp 1.5L TSI petrol engine options. While the 1.0-litre will be offered with 6-speed manual and AT, the 1.5-litre TSI will come with 6-speed manual and DQ200 DSG. Upcoming Cars Under 20 Lakhs in India

With sub-15 lakh cars out of the way, we put focus on the cars that are going to be priced under 20 lakhs. Again, the pricing mentioned are expected whereas the tentative launch timelines could vary.

2022 Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai India has been launching cars back to back and the next one could be the 2022 Elantra. The executive sedan space in the Indian market is facing a slow death, with the Civic being discontinued, the Octavia is the only arch rival to the new Elantra. The 2022 Elantra boasts the sensuous design of Hyundai with loads of cuts and creases.

Hyundai Elantra

It will come powered with both petrol and diesel engine options. While Hyundai is yet to confirm on the powerplants, we expect the same 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. Hyundai could launch the new Elantra in early 2022.

Honda BR-V

Honda recently took the wraps of the new BR-V for the Indonesian markets. While it seems new from the exterior, it is largely similar to the earlier BR-V whereas a lot of inspiration has been taken from the Amaze when it comes to the interiors of the new BR-V.

Honda is lacking in the sub 20 lakh price bracket and the Japanese carmaker desperately needs some offerings. The BR-V could do the trick and it will share the efficient powertrains from the Honda City those are the 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine options. The launch of the new BR-V could take place in the first half of the year 2022.

Honda City Hybrid

Honda India will soon launch the e:HEV hybrid variant of the new City. On a positive note, Honda Car India has confirmed the launch of the City e:HEV hybrid that is slated for mid-2022. It gets the 1.5-litre petrol engine that churns out 98Hp & 127 Nm of torque. The engine follows the Atkinson cycle and the electric motor puts out 109Hp and 253 Nm of torque.

Volkswagen Virtus vs Honda City

It will be the most-fuel efficient mass-market car in the Indian market with a claimed range of over 27.8 km/l. Honda City will be the second Hybrid in the Indian market after the Toyota Camry and it will be a lot more accessible. Prices are expected to hover in the range of Rs 16-18 lakh ex-showroom.

So those were all the cars that are slated to get launched in the year 2022 well under the range of 20 lakhs. We will update the list with more offerings as the launch timeline nears.
