Hyundai to launch six EVs

Hyundai India has come with a full-fledged EV roadmap for the Indian market that has over 6 EVs in the pipeline. The first model to roll out from the plan is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 that is slated to launch next year. In late 2022, Hyundai will also launch the Kona Electric facelift that was recently unveiled globally.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 is an electric crossover that is underpinned by the e-GMP platform. Thanks to the complex drivetrain, the Ioniq 5 will be sold via the CBU route and the testing and validation process have already begun. The e-GMP platform stands for the electric global modular platform. Hence, it could be implemented with various body styles, dimensions, powertrains and more. As the power unit is placed close to the front and back, it leaves an ample amount of space for the cabin.

Coming to the other four EVs that are slated to get launched, will feature ICE-based EV platforms. Not only that will save costs but also boost the percentage of localisation. Hyundai has announced that they will be focusing on compact and mid-size electric SUVs along with an electric sedan, there is no electric hatchback in the mix, as of now. We could see an electric SUV alongside Creta and Venue whereas the electric sedan could be sandwiched between the Aura and Verna.

Hyundai has promised to deliver over 350 km of range with all the upcoming electric models, that’s the baseline for the Korean carmaker when it comes to range. Furthermore, Hyundai is also in talks with other OEMs to build charging and infrastructure solutions. This EV roadmap will encourage more brands to step into the EV revolution and come up with their respective offerings in the market.
